GNOSTIC MASS

Picture of the alter

The Gnostic Mass is the central rite of the OTO and its ecclesiastical arm, Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica; it has been performed regularly in New Zealand for over 20 years. Currently, Mass is held monthly in West Auckland. We prefer to meet with you before attending your first Mass to answer any questions you may have, so that you can fully appreciate the mysteries as they unfold.

Aleister Crowley wrote The Gnostic Mass in 1913 while travelling in Moscow, Russia. In many ways it is similar in structure to the Mass of the Eastern Orthodox Church in that it involves the consummation of a eucharist and a goblet of wine, however, it introduces a uniquely Thelemic current. The officers of the ceremony include a Priest, Priestess, Deacon, and "Children" (typically performed by adults). There is also nudity in the Mass, a celebration of the inmost self exposed. Each Mass is beautiful, typically bringing forth a stream of love providing the opportunity to change and re-create ourselves anew.

We encourage you come along. Please contact the Lodge Master,Tim on mb 021 1309614 or email him at kantharos@otonewzealand.org.nz
